Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300)

Basic visa conditions:

For the applicant:

  • Over 18 years old
  • Have a sponsor who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • Intend to marry the prospective spouse within the visa validity period
  • Be outside Australia (applies to both the main visa applicant and any accompanying family)
  • Have no previous visa cancellations/refusals
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Pay your debts to the Australian Government
  • Understand and sign the Australian Values Statement

For the sponsor:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • Meet character requirements
  • Never sponsored, successfully sponsored less than 2 times and the most recent sponsorship under the 300 visa must be at least 5 years ago
  • Sponsor your prospective spouse and their family members included in their application.
  • Marry the sponsored prospective spouse before the subclass 300 visa expires and continue to apply for the Partner visa.
  • Assume responsibility for: the sponsored prospective spouse’s or accompanying family members’ government debts, their compliance with work requirements, visa conditions, and Australian laws.
